Make me a match!

Posted by Doc BW, Mon Oct 27 06:46:00 UTC 2008

I believe that being able to help someone else is one of the greatest rewards we can experience in life. Of course, being helped also feels good, especially when the helper is someone you already know and trust. And historically, one way we help our friends is to get them together, whether we throw a party, or arrange a blind date. But the results of these moves sometimes lead to outcomes that, let's say, were somewhat less helpful than we originally intended. (Or have you never been on a blind date that ended prematurely?) One of the features I think is fantastic here at Sense2Love is the matchmaker function. Our site is set up to help you make connections between people you know, that you believe would be a good fit for each other. You can invite them both to the site, and have them take our survey. Then, they can get their results and find out if they are compatible or not. Of course, this can then lead to other people being invited here, for further matches, or to try to find a special person if your original friends resulted in less compatibility than you originally guessed. This way, you can help to get people together who might really belong together, and the chances of that bad blind date story can be greatly reduced. I think our matchmaker feature really is a unique offering here on our website, and I hope you and your friends come to agree! Feel free to share stories of those past blind dates, or the successes you've had as well! And thanks for continuing to build our community together!

The Matchmaking Cabbie

Posted by Anju, Thu Sep 25 15:19:00 UTC 2008

A New Jersey cab driver Ahmed Ibrahim has been playing cupid from his taxi. A New York Daily News article from earlier this year says he has arranged over 70 dates. Article

He has swapped numbers between hundreds of couples, helped organize more than 70 real dates and at least 19 of his romances have lasted more than a year.

This Thursday, Ibrahim will be decking his yellow cab with red and white hearts and roses in the hope of matching up yet more Mr. and Mrs. Rights.

“I’ve organized so many dates, and it really makes me feel good about it. I’ve not had one complaint,” Ibrahim, 53, said.

“It’s really fun. Driving a taxi in New York is not an easy job so I just try to create some fun.”

Under pressure

Posted by Doc BW, Fri Aug 08 00:55:00 UTC 2008

Today's thought from me, Doc BW, concerns the other side of matchmaking. Do you have someone you trust in setting you up with a date? Or do you have someone in your life who tries to set you up with someone who you feel has nothing in common with you? How many tries does it take for someone to earn your trust as a good matchmaker? And how many "misses" does someone get before you stop listening to their advice on dating? So, lots of questions there. I would guess that it takes many more hits than misses for someone to be a trusted advisor. I'm just curious as to what the ratio is on average. Do you then give that feedback to the matchmaker in your life, or do you just start to phase them out of your inner circle of trusted dating advisors? Looking forward to feedback on this one, as I expect the matchmakers and daters out there would all like to know your thoughts! Take care of yourselves out there!

Pair-O-Docs

Posted by Dr Scotti Veale, Thu Jul 24 19:29:00 UTC 2008

Hi All,

After much consideration, we are adding a male perspective to the site and our service. I would like to welcome Dr. Brian Wiggett to our team and know that his excitement and understanding of relationships will enhance all of our experiences. With the addition of another Ph.D. I guess this makes us a “Pair-o-Docs.”

Welcome aboard Doc BW and we are looking forward to hearing from you soon and often!

Sincerely,

Doc V.

Dating Resumé

Posted by Dr Scotti Veale, Tue May 27 21:34:00 UTC 2008

Hello S2L Members,

I have often thought that it would be nice to be able to request a “dating resumé” before planning the first date with a prospective match. It seems logical that if one has to provide personal information before a job interview for a job he or she will probably not keep for longer than five years, then it would also be logical to require a resumé from a person with whom one will potentially be spending a lifetime. The question remains: What information should one provide or require to be provided in a “dating resumé ”? Here is the information that I would want to know before considering a first date:

Name

Location

Employment History

Educational History

Family History

Life Philosophy

Personal Goals

  1. Six month
  2. One year
  3. Five year

Three personal references from the following:

  1. A Neighbor
  2. His or her most recent ex-partner
  3. His or her pet (simply seeing how someone reacts to this requirement will say a lot about his or her personal character and sense of humor!)

I am sure that you have your own ideas about what you would want to know. I would love to hear what you would like to see on a “dating resumé .”

Please share!
